There has been a virtual explosion in the number of memory
foam manufacturers in the marketplace today. One of the
troubling aspects of this explosion is that a lot of these
mattresses are coming from China and other overseas companies.
This could be a problem based on several things. One, is that
the quality of memory foam is dependent on several factors such
as thickness, density, proprietary formulas, and the
manufacturer of memory foam themselves. Also you need to
consider the very high density values and also the indentation
force deflection.
Memory Foam Mattress Manufacturers
Many manufacturers of memory foam are keenly aware of what
customers are looking for. And what customers are looking for
are mattresses or other memory foam products that are very high
in density. The problem develops when manufacturers that are
unscrupulous add dangerous or unneeded ingredients to their
formulas that increase the weight and the density of the
mattress (this can cause the mattress to be much too stiff and
completely eliminate the body conforming quality of the
mattress).
Also foam manufacturers from China or other overseas
countries create a foam that has an odd or foul odor. While
this is natural in most foams, some of the overseas created
foams tend to smell worse and if you're sensitive to smells it
can be almost unbearable.
Overseas memory foam manufacturers sometimes will also use
toxic or dangerous substances such as formaldehyde or PBDE in
the makeup of their memory foam. This is why it is essential
that you make sure that any foam product that you're about to
purchase was manufactured in United States or Canada (with the
exception of several Swedish companies).
This does not all mean that there are no high quality
products that are memory foam based coming from overseas. It
just means that there's really no way to verify how high of
quality or how toxic a product is when there's really no way to
regulate it. The best thing for you to do when looking to
purchase any type of memory foam product, is to contact the
manufacturer or retailer and ask them specific questions about
where the product was manufactured. If they seem hesitant or do
not know than simply move on and find another retailer or
manufacturer. You don't wanna end up spending hundreds or
thousands of dollars on a mattress made by memory foam
manufacturers that is low quality, smelly, and potentially
toxic.
